One Fabric – One Body – One Nation!
One Fabric – One Body – One Nation!
*** The National Day Allegiance and Dedication Advertisements***
I was going through the local papers – and I liked this one very much – and is my topic for today! The advertisement was put in by one famous Family Business Concern – and it read – Quote - We are one fabric; one body and one Nation; and the best of us is the one who works for his country and contributes to its progress – unquote. I have written extensively on this subject several times in the past. One of the articles Feel and Act As One can be seen in my website www.alsuleimany.com too.
The other advertisement that I also liked was – Quote – I will work as quickly as possible to enable you to live in happiness in a better future – unquote – by His Majesty on the Day of Accession – put in by one oil company. The advert adds – The promise is fulfilled. Quite catching, relevant and good – I must say!
There are many other quite good and nice ones too. I also liked the full page advert put in by one leading Property and Estate Company – and just confirming that at even the most hard, difficult and austere times and when business is not that good in this line of business – yet people are always ready for the supreme sacrifice to spend for a worthy National cause like this one. I admire and adhere them for that. To all of them – Congratulations! The Nation and People have taken notice.
Long time back, I had a one time a face-to-face discussion with one firm and their Management Team for certain issues best left out in this coverage. But as The Swahilis say – to rub salt into the wound in other words was when one of the person told me – where do you get your courage, guts and audacity to talk to us like this? After all, you are just …. (also better left out here). So I looked him straight in the eye and retorted to him – My friend – we are in this boat together, even if you do not realize it. What you need to appreciate and realize is this – you too are a passenger in this same boat – and that does not give you any rights whatsoever over me etc. in any way or aspects. Respect and esteem me – and I will reciprocate in turn. So please also behave – correct – and remedy yourself – I told him. It did seem to work at that time, and shut him up for good! Anyway until I departed from the place!
*** His Majesty Speech to Council of Oman ***
In his speech to the Council of Oman on November 16th 2009, His Majesty said – Quote – From the moment of its dawn, Oman’s Renaissance has taken determined steps to make progress towards modernization, while at the same time offering equal opportunities for all the citizens of this country without exception or discrimination, thereby enabling them to achieve their aspirations and ambitions and see their hopes realized.
This trend, His Majesty said, has been clearly demonstrated by the realities of daily life and the achievements of the past.
They are further confirmed by the wide range of targets the state has set for its future — the targets that are designed to tap the potential of citizens and upgrade their skills and expertise to give them access for greater employment opportunities so that they can, on one hand, achieve economic gains for themselves and their families, and on the other, contribute to their community’s development. His Majesty pointed out that to go the mile for a brighter future of progress, happiness and prosperity, one needs to be armed with a high level of determination, sustained commitment and patience, diligence and persistence.
“We are confident that the people of Oman enjoy many of these noble traits. Their past and present performance bears testimony to this, and we have no doubt that they are capable of building a happy future, God willing,” said His Majesty. Speaking about development projects, His Majesty the Sultan said they are progressing as planned in various parts of the country and in all sectors, particularly in the fields of infrastructure, industry and tourism. Although the government is carrying out most of these projects, we call on investors, citizens and foreigners to participate in them in the interest of all. The contributors will, of course, be provided with all the necessary facilities – unquote.
If there are people out there that still have any doubt on the capabilities, competences, abilities, commitment, dedication of the Omanis, The Youth and The Omani Work Force then look no further – and as I have always said in my Column and Books on many occasions!
In all my books there are cautionary tales and articles on such aspects – and though my concentration had always been on The Youth and in Office Environments on the negativity, bad stereotyping, bad and whimsical perceptions and outlooks, patronizing and condescending attitudes and approaches – especially from a few misguided and misled elements in our country! I sincerely hope and pray that they will change their views, outlooks, perceptions and outlooks after this one – remedy, rectify and amend their behavior and attitude ways too.
My new book (Second in Management) titled A Cry For Help! will cover and expose many of these aspects. It is almost near completion now. My first Management book Psychology of Arab Management Thinking (see www.alsuleimany.com) also has covered many of these aspects. Highly recommended for the even experts and knowledgeable to also the College and University student in Business, Management and the Social Sciences even. Keep remembering that it has been written by a National Management and Human Resources Expert, Professional and Consultant with over 35 years first hand experiences and exposures in his own home and local environment.
*** Extract From The Article Feel and Act As One! ***
As kids, we have read all these stories. Most of us have been told these stories by our parents, grandparents or have read them in school too! How come we have conveniently forgotten all these now?
This is the story of the Father laying on his deathbed and calling his children around him. Then he gives each child a stick and asks them to break the stick in two. Each one of them is able to do that. Then he takes all the sticks and ties them up in a bundle. He then asks each child to do the same. None of them is able to break up the bundle.
Each one of them looks in amazement and awe at their dying father and what he is now up to. Then the father cautions – so long as you stick together as one, nothing will ever happen to you in your lives. But if you get out of the bundle and be as a single stick, everyone outside can break you into two. You must always be together and act as one. Remember this always my children!
Trust M to be always relevant, correct and appropriate! Take Care!
